Delhi Dehradun Expressway is an under construction access controlled expressway which is being constructed by National Highways Authority of India(NHAI) under Bharatmala Pariyojana between Delhi and Dehradun.

Start Point of Delhi Dehradun Expressway

Delhi Dehradun Expressway will start from Akshardham exit point of Delhi Meerut Expressway in Delhi. Expressway starts near Akshardham temple in Delhi and end at asarodi police chauki in Dehradun. This expressway will be the mix of upgrading the existing highway and newly built Greenfield alignment.

Delhi Dehradun Expressway is being constructed under 4 phases. These phases are further divided into different packages. The Construction cost of Delhi Dehradun Expressway is 13000 crore. By the construction of new expressway distance will be reduced by 25km and the travel time will be reduced to 2.5 hrs from 5hrs . Project deadline is december 2023 but it may be extended till March 2024. Expressway will be mix of 12lane carriage way in brownfield area and 6 Lane in Greenfield area, upgradable to 8 lanes in future. Expressway is constructed under EPC model.

Route Map of Delhi Dehradun Expressway

Delhi Dehradun will pass through the congested area of North-east Delhi. Expressway is being constructed on marginal bund road/pusta road. It will pass through Geeta colony, Gandhinagar, Shastri Park, Khajuri Khas, Pavi, Trans Delhi signature city, Mandola, Khekra Eastern peripheral expressway (EPE) junction. It will pass below the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and will take Greenfield route from mavikala village. Greenfield area will be six lane acces controlled.

Wayside amenities will be developed alongside Delhi Dehradun Expressway. It will have interchanges along the National Highways and Expressways. It will have 12km elevated wildlife corridor along Rajaji National park. As the end part of the project falls under eco sensitive zone so elevated corridor is proposed to avoid any problem to wildlife. The 12 km wildlife elevated corridor will be longest wildlife corridor in Asia.

Project Phases, Details and Status update of Delhi Dehradun Expressway

Phase 1

Phase 1 of Delhi Dehradun Expressway starts near Akshardham temple and will end at Eastern peripheral expressway interchange of khekra baghpat. The work under phase 1 was earlier under NH709B between Delhi and Saharanpur. The project between akshardham and EPE interchange baghpat was envisioned in 2018 and was inaugurated in 26 January 2019 by Nitin Gadkari in Khajuri khas area of east Delhi. Tenders were released but no substantial progress was achieved in tender finalisation. When Delhi Dehradun Expressway was proposed so this project was taken under the expressway and new tenders were released.

Phase 1 of Delhi Dehradun Expressway has 2 packages and there length is 31.3km

Package 1

  • Length of the package 1 phase 1 is 14.75 km. It is between akshardham temple and Delhi UP border.
  • It consists of 6 lane elevated corridor of length 7km between Geeta colony and khajuri khas.
  • It will have 6 lane express lane and 3 lane each side for service road for local traffic.
  • It will have five underpass. 10 big and 15 small junction are proposed.
  • It will cross new Delhi Anand vihar railway line, Delhi metro Red and blue line, Delhi shahdara Indian railway line.
  • This package will have entry and exit points at Delhi Meerut Expressway, Shastri Park and khajuri khas.

Status Update

  • Six Lane flyover is being constructed over new Delhi Anand vihar railway line.
  • Road Expansion work is going between akshardham and Geeta colony.
  • Majority of pillars are constructed for elevated corridor. Pier cap work is going for most of the pillars
  • work for slab casting has been completed between several pillars between Shastri Park and khajuri khas.
  • Underpass is completed for Karawal Nagar.

Package 2

  • Length of the package 2 of phase 1 is 16.57 km.
  • package is between Delhi Up border and EPE interchange baghpat.
  • This package will have elevated corridor of 12.7 km. Elevated corridor is starting near Pavi police chowki and will end at EPE interchange baghpat.
  • It will have 3 underpass and one major interchange at Mandola Vihar.
  • Faridabad, Noida and Ghaziabad (FNG) Expressway is proposed to be connected at Mandola Vihar interchange so that people of ghaziabad can acces this Expressway easily.

Status Update

  • Construction work of underpass going on full swing. Service road completed at some point and drainage work is going on.
  • Around 300 pillars are in construction for this package and piling and pier cap work is completed on 95 percent of the package.
  • Pier caps and wings have been extended and work of flooring has been completed near dundahera village.
  • Ramp work is completed near Eastern peripheral expressway interchange and black top is done.

After package 2 of phase 1 this Expressway will be underpass eastern peripheral expressway and take right turn for 118km long Greenfield expressway of phase 2.

Phase 2 of Delhi Dehradun Expressway has 4 Package and Length will be 118km

Phase 2 is Greenfield section of Delhi Dehradun Expressway. It will be 118km long. It will start at EPE interchange baghpat and end at Saharanpur bypass. It will have 5 interchange and 60 underpass. Entire stretch of expressway will be under CCTV Surveillance. Wayside amenities will be developed at every 25km. Speed limit will 100km/hr with closed tolling system under this phase.

Package 1

  • This package starts at epe interchange baghpat and end at lohada village. Total length is of 27km under package 1.
  • Rajshayama Constructions is constructing this package.
  • Two interchange will be constructed under this package.
  • Interchange at Baghpat Meerut National Highway NH334b.
  • Interchange at Baraut Muzzafarnagar Road.

Status Update

  • Vehicular Underpass, cattle underpass and drain work completed at several locations.
  • Earth work is 70 percent completed on this package and subgrade layer is prepared black top work is done at some place.
  • Interchange work is started and is in early stage.

Package 2

  • this package is constructed between lohada village and karaunda Mahajan village.
  • It is 30 km in length and ends at NH709A.
  • Krishna Construction is constructed this package.
  • Interchange will be constructed for NH709A.

Status Update

  • Earthwork is going on several places. Subgrade work is done at some place.
  • Interchange work is going on at meerut Shamli highway.

Package 3

  • This package is constructed between Karaunda Mahajan and Khyawari village.
  • This package will be 26km in length.
  • Interchange will be given at panipat khatima National highway NH709AD.
  • Interchange on Thanabhawan Charthawaal road near Khyawari village.
  • Shiv Build India Constructing this package.

Status Update

Earthwork is 60 percent complete on this stretch. Interchange work is going on full flow.

Package 4

  • This package is constructed between Khyawari to latifpur village near Saharanpur bypass.
  • It will 36km in length, it will pass over nanauta deoband road.
  • This package will have a spur road for roorkee and haridwar connectivity which will start from halgoa village in Saharanpur district.
  • Krishna Construction doing the work for this package.

Status Update

Earthwork is almost complete in this package and preparation of spur road is going on.

Phase 3 of Delhi Dehradun Expressway

This phase will have the brownfield upgradation of Saharanpur bypass into six lanes. Bridges and service road will be extended to achieve 100km/hr speed on the expressway.

This phase will pass through existing Saharanpur Dehradun highway. It will pass along chuttmalpur bypass and end at ganeshpur. Length of this phase is 40.

Phase 4 of Delhi Dehradun Expressway

Upgradation of ganeshpur dehradun stretch will be done under this phase. It will be mix of Brownfield upgrade and construction of new elevated wildlife corridor will take place. A new tunnel is constructed next to Daat ki devi tunnel.

Package 1

It will be 8km in length from ganeshpur to mohand. It will be expansion of existing road. Not much progress has been done in this stretch. Construction is being done by vashistha construction under this package. From the end of this package new elevated corridor is constructed around seasonal river of mohand.

Package 2

This stretch will pass through mohand river. It will be part of 12km elevated wildlife corridor. A new 3 lane tunnel is constructed in this package. After crossing the tunnel a 3 lane elevated section is constructed which will end near asarodi police chowki. Ram Kumar contractor and bharat construction is doing the work in this package.

Status Update

  • 70 percent pillars completed
  • pillar cap constructed for majority of the pillars.
  • Iron segments are launched and work of concrete slab for bridge is started
  • Drilling work of tunnel is completed and Road expansion work is going in full swing.

Current Route Between Delhi and Dehradun

currently there are many routes available to travel between Delhi and Dehradun. Best route as of now is Delhi Meerut Expressway – Muzzafarnagar – Dehradun route it takes between 5-6 hours to reach Dehradun to Delhi. Road condition is good. Speed limit is between 80-100 km/hr under this route.

Delhi to Dehradun route options

  • Delhi-Meerut-Muzzafarnagar-Dehradun route. It takes 5-6 hours. It has toll plazas at meerut, Daurala, Rohana, Ganeshpur. Road condition is good.
  • Delhi-Meerut-Muzzafarnagar-Roorke-Bhagwanpur-Dehradun route. Conditions of road are good. Travel time is between 5-6 hours.
  • Delhi – Shamli – Saharanpur – Dehradun. It takes between 6-7 hours to reach Dehradun.
  • Delhi-Meerut-Roorke-haridwar-dehradun. This is the longest route. Road conditions are good.
