Construction of New Bypass for Saharanpur

After getting bypass for Ambala – Roorkee national highway, A new Bypass for Saharanpur will be completed soon. It will be a North South Bypass for Saharanpur district.

The new Bypass for Saharanpur will start near chunheti railway crossing just next to already completed Gagalheri – Sarsawa bypass on Ambala Roorkee national highway and will end on Behat Road ( Delhi Yamountri Highway SH57).

This new bypass will ease traffic congestion within Saharanpur and will help travellers coming from Delhi and going towards, Shaktipeeth Shakumbhari Devi Temple, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

Saharanpur Bypass detailed description

This bypass will be a four lane highway. Length of the bypass will 19KM. It will pass through Greenfield area of Saharanpur district. It will cross the eastern Yamuna canal, Nakur road, Ambala road and chilkana road. It will end near devla village on behat road after crossing Saharanpur city.

It will start near chunheti on NH709b ending point and will take left turn. It will cross three roads namely Nakur road, Ambala road, chilkana road and will merge on behat road near devla village.

Earth work has been done at Major stretch. Construction for ramp has started on both the starting and ending point of Saharanpur Bypass. Some bridges are under Construction and some are already constructed.

Delhi Yamountri Highway History

Delhi Yamountri Highway is one of the oldest highway of the country. This highway was earlier under the Uttar Pradesh Government and was named as State Highway 57.

Before getting status of National Highway for major part of this highway, Delhi Yamountri Highway use to start from delhi and end at Yamountri in uttarakhand (SH57 in uttar pradesh). In 2012 the work of four laning of this highway was started from Delhi. Four laning of stretch of around 190 km was to be completed from Loni until starting of hill area on Uttar Pradesh Uttarakhand border.

This highway was supposed to pass from Loni, Baghpat, Baraut, Shamli, Thanabhawan, Rampur Maniharan, Jalalabad, Saharanpur, Behat, Mirzapur, hydel colony. Major bridges and Culverts were completed in the entire stretch. But the project was stopped due to certain reasons and work was stopped for three years.

In 2017 Delhi Yamountri Highway was given status of National Highway from Akshardham in Delhi to Saharanpur Bypass and was named as NH709b. The National Highway work was awarded in 4 Packages.

  1. Akshardham to Delhi UP border.
  2. Delhi UP border to Eastern peripheral expressway baghpat
  3. Epe baghpat to Shamli Bypass
  4. Shamli Bypass to Ambala Roorkee highway (Saharanpur)

Phase 3 is completed. Some work is left on Phase 4 bridge on railway crossing are left.

package 1 and 2 are now constructed under Delhi Dehradun Expressway phase 1.

Rest of the area of Delhi Yamountri Highway within Saharanpur and beyond are still under SH 57.
